Flex and Samantha had a very good day competing in all eleven classes this month and doing very well.  The day started off with a first place in Jr/Am Equitation On The Flat.  This was followed up by two firsts and a second on the flat in the Schooling Hunter resulting in a Champion in that division.  In the Short Stirrup Division they earned a third and fourth over fences and a third under saddle.  Short Stirrup Equitation Division earned a fifth over fences and a first on the flat.  The RHSC Mini-Medal Class earned a fifth place.

October 14, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

Traditionally there is a Halloween Charity Horse Show on Friday night before the October RHSC show.  This year we had a bunch of fun.  Samantha, Christian and Louisa participated to help raise money for charity.  There were lots of ribbons earned but the best thing according to Christian, is that for once he beat his sister at a horse show!  We all stayed up much too late on Friday night having fun when 05:30 came around on Saturday morning!  It's a good thing that we only do this once a year.   Pictures of the Halloween Show are still in the other camera.  Here are a few pictures taken during schooling on Saturday morning.  Felx was touch and go for this weekend because of a pulled muscle in his left hip.  He looked fantastic on Saturday morning.

Flex and Samantha earned a second place in their first class,  Jr/Am Equitation On The Flat and it seemed that he was back in his prime.  After  two more classes, a fourth in Short Stirrup Equitation Over Fences and a second in Short Stirrup equitation on the flat his back began to bother him and we had to pull him from any additional competition.  By choosing the classes that were important for the year end points chase Samantha and Flex moved into first place in the Jr/Am Equitation On The Flat class for the year and they only lost four points in the Short Stirrup Equitation Division for year end points.  It was disappointing that Flex was not completely healthy but rewarding that he was able to get the job done where it counted.  He now gets a well deserved week off to rest up for next month.

September 9, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

Schooling in the covered ring was a bit of a challenge on Friday night.    They did not have the lights on in the covered arena so it got dark early and there were several shadows that made a few of the jumps spooky for Flex.  Schooling went well however and both Samantha and Flex were ready for the show.   The results again this month were fantastic with two reserve-champions earned in Short Stirrup Division and Schooling Hunter Division.   Saturday morning Flex's right hind leg was swollen so we had to walk him for quite a while to eliminate the stiffness.   The problem was a result of him being put up all night in a stall which is not normal for him.   The standing around in close quarters reduces circulation which results in swelling in his leg.  Experience with Flex has shown that he takes several months to fully recover from infections and eliminate relapses of symptoms.   The good news is that this does not prevent him from working.  This is the same leg that was swollen at last month's show.

The results:  Jr. Amateur Equitation On The Flat - sixth, 2' Jugged Warm-up fifth, Schooling Hunter A - second, Schooling Hunter B - first, Schooling Hunter On The Flat - fourth, Reserve-Champion Schooling Hunter.  Short Stirrup A - First, Short Stirrup B - Second, Short Stirrup On The Flat - fourth, Reserve-Champion Short Stirrup.  Short Stirrup Equitation Over Fences - fourth, Short Stirrup Equitation On The Flat - first.  Rolling Hills Mini Medal Equitation - second.

August 19, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

The results this month were fantastic with two champions earned in Short Stirrup Division and Schooling Hunter Division.  The weekend started out with quite a scare as Flex was off during schooling on Friday night with some swelling in his right rear leg caused by "pasture rash" abrasions.  Lots of cold hosing and walking got the swelling down and he was able to compete.

The show started off with a first place in the Jr. Amateur Equitation On The Flat class and it only got better from there!

There was some excitement towards the end of the day when Samantha and Flex scored a first place in the Short Stirrup Equitation On The Flat class.  We had forgotten to remove his martingale and someone protested.  The scores were revised and Samantha and Flex went from first to fifth.  Too bad we missed that tack change because the ride was very good.

The results:  Jr. Amateur Equitation On The Flat - first, Schooling Hunter A - first, Schooling Hunter B - first, Schooling Hunter On The Flat - second, Champion Schooling Hunter.  Short Stirrup A - Second, Short Stirrup B - Second, Short Stirrup On The Flat - fourth, Champion Short Stirrup.  Short Stirrup Equitation Over Fences - second, Short Stirrup Equitation On The Flat - fifth.  Rolling Hills Mini Medal Equitation - fourth.

July 22, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

This horse show was a big disappointment because Flex was coming off of an abscess and he was not in shape to compete in the jumping classes.  He was only entered in one class the Junior/Armature Equitation On The Flat and he scored a third place ribbon.  The good news is that this performance was good enough to boost Samantha and Flex from second to first in the year end points for this class.

What's a girl to do if she can't ride her horse, oh yeah, kiss him, that will fix everything!

July 15-16, 2006 Horse Show Ventures Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

This show was supposed to be a tune up show for Samantha and Flex but he turned up lame with an abscess so she took Wrisque.

The Atlanta Saddlery Equitation Challenge On The Flat was held on Saturday in the Covered Arena.  Samantha

and Wrisque got into a contest to see who was in charge and they ended up not pinning in this class.

Saturday's Schooling Hunter resulted in 4th on the B course and Second on the Flat

Sunday's Schooling Hunter Division resulted in a 2nd on the A course and a 3rd on the Flat.

This show marked the return of Flex and Samantha to Rolling Hills and back they came in force!  Two Champions, four blue first place, four red second place and three yellow third place pinning marked their return. In the two classes that they are not leading the year end points, Junior/Armature Equitation On The Flat and RHSC Mini-Medal 2'3" Equitation Over Fences they gained year end points on the leaders.  Congratulations to Sam and Flex .

May 20, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

This is the first show for  Samantha and Louisa riding with New Haven Farms under the guidance of Laura Ramsey.  They both had very good outings.  Louisa and Trax came together very well with a reserve champion in Short Stirrup Hunter division, first place in 2'3" Hunter Warm-up and first place in Open Hunter B Course.  Samantha was riding a new horse Wrisque that she had only been on for two weeks.  She got a second place in the Jr. Armature Equitation on the flat and a sixth place in the Mini-Medal Equitation Over Fences.   Wrisque is a 17.1 hand TB/Hanoverian mare that is a beautiful mover but she has not yet learned her lead changes and that made a big difference in the scoring this weekend.   Congratulations to Louisa and Samantha for their outstanding performances.

This is how Sam and Wrisque (Daddy's Dollars) finished the day.

This is only the first half of the day's ribbons for Louisa and Trax, Mom is still wearing the rest of the ribbons and they looked this good!

April 15, 2006 Horse Show Ventures Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

Congratulations to Samantha and Flex:  Sixth Place in The Atlanta Saddlery Equitation Challenge and Short Stirrup Equitation on the flat;  Third Place in Short Stirrup Equitation Over Fences, Short Stirrup Hunter A & B and Short Stirrup Hunter On The Flat.

Waiting for the day to begin and the horse to finish his breakfast

Schooling on Friday afternoon below

April 8, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

Congratulations to Gracie and Madonna:  Three First place and two Second place pinnings

Congratulations to Samantha and Flex:  Champion in Schooling Hunter, Champion in Short Stirrup Hunter, First in Junior Amateur Equitation On The Flat, and Second in Mini-Medal Equitation Challenge.

The weather was perfect for schooling on Friday afternoon.  A major thunder storm passed through during the early morning but other than a wet track and a couple of drizzles the weather held out ok on Saturday.

The day started off great when the Junior Amateur Equitation On The Flat class yielded Samantha and Flex their first First Place of the year in this class.

This is what the game face of a two time champion for this day looks like:  Champion in Short Stirrup Hunter as well as Schooling Hunter.

The Short Stirrup Equitation Over Fences Class had several tight roll backs that made jumping at an angle to the jump a necessity.

After 11 classes, two champions, 6 first, 2 second, 2 third, and one fourth, a much needed break for horse and rider before the final class.  Flex prefers Orchard/Alfalfa hay and Samantha nachos, to each his own!

The Mini-Medal Equitation Challenge has an over fences portion counting 60% and a flat portion counting 40% of the score for that class.  This show the judge had the riders compete individually for the flat portion executing a figure-8 pattern at a cantor with a simple change in the middle of the 8 and a five second halt at the beginning and end of the pattern.  It was a more difficult test than the typical walk, trot, cantor and Samantha and Flex did an excellent job.

February 11, 2006 Rolling Hills Saddle Club Horse Show - Wills Park, Alpharetta, GA

Congratulations to Louisa for pinning in 9 of 10 classes in her first horse show over fences, great ride!

Congratulations to Samantha for a Champion the Short Stirrup Division with four firsts and one fourth, great ride!

Congratulations to Christian for hanging on to a horse that wanted to run and wouldn't settle down

Louisa, Samantha and Christian braved the rain and 30 degree temperatures to open the 2006 horse show season at Wills Park.  Louisa and Samantha competed in the Hunter Ring and Christian competed in the Beginner Ring.  Louisa had a fantastic ride for her first horse show over fences pinning in nine of ten classes entered.  She was called back as one of the six finalists in the Mini-Medal Equitation class to participate in the flat class after the over fences portion.  Samantha picked up where she left off in 2005 with a Champion in Short Stirrup and a blue ribbon in the Mini-Medal Equitation Class.

Louisa and Trax had an equally impressive display of ribbons but the photographer's glove got in front of the camera and messed up the picture.

Sunrise Stables fared well in the Mini-Medal Equitation Class.  Both of our riders were picked in the final six out of twelve riders to compete in the flat portion after the over fences portion of the class was completed.  The final scores for the class were 60% equitation over fences and 40% equitation on the flat.
